VMware Electronic Courseware Registration

You have registered for an official VMware training. The class is delivered using electronic books only. On the first day of the training the instructor will assist you with downloading the electronic books. It will however speed things up if you can prepare this before coming to the training center. If you for example own a smartphone, tablet or laptop that you want to use to read the electronic books then you can install the required software prior to the training. And a few days before the training starts you will receive a redemption code with instructions on how to download the eBook before the class starts.

1. Register for a VMware MyLearn account

Since the training is an official VMware course you will need to be registered with VMware. This is important because when you want to become certified course attendance may be mandatory. VMware uses a system named MyLearn to store student information and to allow students to keep track of their VMware education history.

You can create an account with any email address you want but the best choice is to use an email address that you will be using for the rest of your professional life. That way if you for example change employers you can keep using the same VMware education and certification account.

Use the same email address for both MyLearn and the eBooks registration in step two so that they will match in the system.

Click here to create a MyLearn account with VMware or login with your existing MyLearn account to verify that it is still active.

2. Register to receive electronic books redemption code

The next step is to provide us with the following information so that we can register you with VMware to receive the electronic book redemption code. You will receive that a few days before the training starts.

This step is mandatory. Without this information you will not have access to the course materials during the training.

3. Register for an account with VitalSource

The electronic books are delivered through a third party named VitalSource. With their BookShelf application you can redeem your books and read them.To use their software and the books you also need an account with VitalSource. Please register with the same email address used in the previous steps to create an account here: http://online.vitalsource.com/user/new

4. Choose a device and install the software

When you do not want to bring your own device to the training then you don't have to worry, the training center will make sure you have access to the electronic books during the training. If you don't bring a device then you must still register for your personal code in step 2 and bring that code to the training center on the first day.

There are a few benefits when you bring your own device:

  • You keep access to the course material after the training with the notes you made during the training. The software allows you to make notes in the eBook.
  • You can use your device in the evenings or while traveling to the training center to study.
  • You can use your device in combination with the classroom pc so that you don't have to switch during lectures and labs.
  • You can register the books on four devices (two pc's/mac and two mobile devices)

Vitalsource BookshelfThe software needed for the eBooks is VitalSource Bookshelf. You can download it here for Windows and Mac. For your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch you can search for VitalSource Bookshelf in the App Store and the same applies to Android smartphones and tablets where you can find it in the  Google Play store.

If you plan to use your own device don't forget to bring it to the training center.
